Everfield, a buy-and-grow investor in European B2B SaaS businesses, has completed the acquisition of Playoff, the Barcelona-based platform that runs the daily operations of more than 1,700 sports clubs, federations, academies, and associations across Spain. Founder and CEO Rubén Celada Pérez continues to lead the company, with the full team remaining in Barcelona.
Founded in 2006 as a custom software provider for Spanish sports federations, the company launched Playoff in 2014: an all-in-one cloud platform that centralises how membership-based organisations work. Its customers today span sport, education, and professional associations, including Movistar Estudiantes, the Asociación de la Prensa de Madrid, Toni Kroos Academy, PACMA, Real Club Náutico de Vigo.
Playoff is the operational backbone of the organisations that run on it. The platform combines administration, billing, communications, and events in one place, replacing the patchwork of spreadsheets and standalone tools many organisations still rely on, and reaches members directly through a white-label mobile app. Payments are handled inside the platform through Playoff Pay, the company's integrated payments engine, with billing already prepared for Spain's VeriFactu e-invoicing mandate.
With Everfield, Playoff plans to move faster on priorities it had already set: broader payments capabilities, deeper AI across the platform, and continued product development.
Rubén Celada Pérez, who founded the company and led its transition to SaaS, will continue to lead Playoff as CEO.
“Playoff has always grown the same way: drop by drop, bootstrapped, staying independent and putting our customers first for nearly two decades. The organisations that run on Playoff trust us with their day-to-day operations, and that trust is something we take very seriously. What convinced us about Everfield is that we don't have to give any of that up: we keep our brand, our team, and the way we work, but with the backing of a pan-European software group that lets us raise the bar even higher — stronger payments capabilities, more AI across the platform, and a faster pace of innovation.
“For our customers, everything they rely on stays in place; we simply gain more capacity to keep improving it. We're excited about what we can build together,” said Rubén Celada Pérez, Founder and CEO of Playoff.
“We are delighted to welcome Playoff to the Everfield ecosystem. Playoff has built a market-leading platform for sports federations and clubs in Spain, and we see enormous potential to take it further. Everfield brings the capabilities of a pan-European software group, investment in product development, operational expertise, and access to state-of-the-art technology deeply embedded with AI. This will allow Playoff to innovate and grow faster while delivering even more value to its customers,” said Ignacio Villalón Pérez-Artacho, Country Manager for Iberia at Everfield.
“We are equally pleased that Rubén will continue to lead the business; his vision and deep knowledge of the sector will make him a crucial figure in our ecosystem going forward,” added Ignacio.
The acquisition is Everfield's seventh in Spain and a deliberate next step in Iberia, where it has been building a vertical of specialist software businesses in Food, Hospitality & Leisure: teeone.golf and The Mulligan Factory in golf club management, Gstock in purchasing and stock management for food and beverage businesses, and now Playoff in membership and sports management. Everfield's Spanish footprint reaches beyond one vertical: Vozitel develops Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS) and AI software, Esemtia builds management software for education centres, and 4GL provides the software that runs gas station operations. Each company keeps its own brand, team, and product, backed by Everfield's permanent ownership and a network of more than 40 European software businesses across 11 countries.
Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Barcelona, Playoff provides an all-in-one cloud platform for membership-based organisations in Spain. The platform covers member management, registrations, recurring billing and payments, communications, events, and a white-label mobile app, and is used by more than 1,700 sports clubs, federations, academies, and associations.
